Bolton Wanderers defender Marcos Alonso revealed he was hoping to return to full training with the English Premier League side sooner than later after having been sidelined with a serious injury. The 20-year-old Spaniard was ruled out with a long-term injury
after breaking his foot in August.
However, the latest scans reveal his bone has healed sooner than expected, which means he could be back as soon as the end of October. Due to the injury early on in the season, Alonso has been unable to participate in any of his side’s fixtures and is understandably
looking forward to his return.
Alonso said while speaking to reporters:
“I am doing all I can to get back as soon as possible. The scan came out all clear and the doctor said I am making really good progress.”
The young Spaniard has already begun light training and is expected to begin full training by the end of the month. Alonso could very well be featuring for the reserve team in the upcoming weeks, after which Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle could consider
him for the first team.
He continued:
“I have started running now and hopefully I will be back in full training with the squad in one to two weeks.”
While it is highly unlikely that Coyle will choose to award Alonso first team action upon his return, the Spaniard will however have a chance at some first team football this season depending on his performance of course.
Along with Alonso, Coyle will eagerly be awaiting the return of another youngster who has been out with injury. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sam-Ricketts-c32291 has been out of action since February with an Achilles problem but is reportedly close to his return.
According to the Trotters boss, Ricketts was indeed close to a return but Coyle did not want to risk rushing the player for fear of a recurrence. Bolton Wanderers will be strengthened by the return of these two players, especially after a very poor start
to the season.
Coyle revealed:
“Sam is getting closer but there is no sense rushing him.”
