Marcos Maidana looking sharp
WBA junior welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana will be ready for champion Amir Khan when they clash December 11, according to
boxingscene.com.
The popular boxing website was invited to watch the Argentinean spar for six rounds against various sparring partners and confirmed that he had added to his bag of tricks.
Maidana, a formidable puncher, will be looking to catch the versatile Khan, who is trained by the legendary Freddie Roach.
Khan recently returned from a stint in Baguio City, Philippines, where he was used to help prepare superstar Manny Pacquiao for his clash Saturday against Antonio Margarito.
Maidana is coming off a close bout against veteran DeMarcus Corley, in which he won a unanimous decision.
During the training session, Marcos sparred exclusively with taller, quicker opponents, for the purpose of preparing for Khan. Both opponents claimed that Maidana was the hardest puncher they had ever come across at junior welterweight.
A member of Maidana’s training team spoke about what Khan can expect in the ring.
"Khan is going to see some new things. Marcos still hits hard but we are going to go after him. Hit him in the arms, the shoulders, we will hit him where ever we can. Khan will run but it will only be a matter of time before Marcos cuts off the ring and
catches him. Khan's chin will get a test."
Maidana has been told not to be shy with Khan, who’s ability to take a punch was doubted after he was knocked out by Breidis Prescott in a 2008 bout he was favoured to win. Khan will be looking to silence detractors with superior boxing skills and quickness.
The winner of Maidana vs. Khan is likely to face off in early 2011 against the winner of a bout between WBC king Devon Alexander and WBO champ Timothy Bradley to determine the best in the division.
