Marcos Senna hoping for a new deal and Zinedine Zidane may be heading to Real Madrid
Once linked with Manchester United, Villarreal’s midfielder Marcos Senna is hoping that he will be handed a new contract at the club before he decides to call it a day.
The veteran central attacking midfielder has been an integral part of the team in recent years, even this season he has been a big part of his team’s fantastic start to the season. The Yellow submarine currently lies in 2nd spot
in the table, just one point adrift of Valencia who are currently leading the table. The current deal will see Senna leave Villarreal at the end of current season, but the 34 year old is hoping that he will be given one more year by his beloved club.
"My contract ends here this year and my dream is to stay," he told AS.
Senna was an integral part of Spain’s team in 2008 when they won the European Championships. However he was not picked for the 23 man squad that went to the world cup in South Africa. As soon as Vicente Del Bosque decided not
to pick him there were questions regarding his ability to survive at the highest level. But Senna was not deterred and he kept working on his fitness and game over the off season. As soon as the season restarted he came out with a new vigour and results are
there for everyone to see. He said that at the age of 34 it is not unusual for critics to do doubt any player’s fitness level. He added that all he could do was keep on training and work even harder and that is exactly what he has done. Marcos Senna said that
he was never in doubt about his own ability and knew that he had at least one or maybe two seasons left in him. He added that he has never been a man who looks too much into the future, and he is more concerned about the immediate future.
The experienced Spanish international has been delighted with the form his team has shown this season. He said that Villarreal have always had good spells in the middle of a season. But this is the first time in a while that they
have started the season so well; he went on to say that it will be a tough ask to hold off the challenge from Barcelona and Real Madrid but they will do all they can to sustain their position in the league.
Senna said: "We knew we had to start well to gain confidence and we have done that, we are one of the best teams in this league and we can fight with six or seven others for those top spots, then, fate and other things will determine
what happens. We are aware we are not Barcelona or Real Madrid but we can compete with them”.
Meanwhile Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has said that he will love to bring in former Real Madrid player Zinedine Zidane to the club in a coaching role. The man known as a legend in Bernabeu during his time with Real Madrid won
every title there is to win in club football, to add to that he has also won the world cup and the Euro championship for France. Lately he has also shown interest in joining Real Madrid in the capacity of an advisor to Florentino Perez, the President of the
club. For now these are all reports and no official statement from Zidane has released as of now.
