Marcos Senna targets a title for Villarreal
Villarreal midfielder Marcos Senna has said he is eager to win a title for the club before the end of his career.
Senna, 34, has played for Villareal since 2002, but has yet to win a title with Juan Carlos Garrido's team.
Aside from winning the FIFA Club World Cup title with Brazilian team Corinthians in 2000, the Spanish midfielder, who was born in Brazil, has not won any titles at the club level.
"I have had a very nice time here, and I have had the chance to play in the Champions League, but the club’s main target, and mine, is to win a title," said Senna, who has made 249 appearances for Villarreal.
The midfielder's contract with the club expires at the end of the current season, but Senna has stated that he is hopeful of securing an extension to his contract if his performances during the current league campaign are up to par.
Champions League spot the objective for Villarreal
Villarreal, is currently second in the league with 19 points, one behind leaders Real Madrid, have set their sights on a place in the league's top four this season, which would earn them a place in the Champions League next year.
"Ultimately, if we can secure a spot in the Champions League it would be a huge accomplishment and I think people would be very happy if this were to occur again," reported Senna, whose team played in the 2005-06 and 2008-09 editions of the Champions League.
"But the goal is to have a great season, and of course, a title would not be bad."
Senna, who formed an integral part of the Spain team that won the 2008 European Championships, added Villarreal should focus more on the matches ahead and not on the overall objectives of their season for the time being.
"We are second, and maybe people think that we can get between Barcelona and Real Madrid, but we know that these teams are not part of our war. We will see what happens at the end of the season, and now we have to think of our matches against [Polideportivo]
Ejido and Sporting [de Gijon]."
