Marcus Camby happy to be in Houston Rockets; Derek Fisher still uncertain – NBA Update
The Houston Rockets currently stand at the eighth spot in the Western Conference and with just a month left in the regular season, they have tried to infuse some experience in their lineup by bringing in defensive stalwart Marcus
Camby from the Portland Trail Blazers and 16 year NBA veteran and winner of five NBA championships at the Los Angeles Lakers, Derek Fisher. However, while the 37 years centre from the Trail Blazers is pleased to be a part of the Rockets, confusion still surrounds
the fate of Derek Fisher and there have been reports that he may never suit up for his new franchise.
Camby, who had been averaging 8.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game in about 22 minutes in Portland, has had a well travelled career and the Rockets will be his sixth destination in 15 years. He was excited at the prospect of returning
to his hometown and expressed the desire to finish his NBA career at Houston.
"I think I'm more excited about being here, than they are in having me," Camby said. "Just looking forward to blending in with the guys. It's kind of new to me. I kind of feel like - have you ever felt like the new kid in school?
The new kid comes into school that just moved into town. I've got that nervous feeling, but once I get out there on the court, it's just basketball."
The case of fisher is however a curios one, so much so that even the franchise general manager, Daryl Morey, isn’t too sure as well. The only thing he acknowledged was that the trade was a reality;
"Right now, I can just say that the trade obviously happened”.
The Lakers roped in young point guard Ramon Sessions just hours before Thursday’s trade deadline, and with Steve Blake and rookie Darius Morris already in the roster, they swapped Fisher and a first round draft pick with backup
centre Jordan Hill.
There has however been deaf silence on the issue from Fisher and there are chances that the Rockets will buy out the player option worth $3.4 million on his contract next season. If they do so, they will only have 12 players on
the roster and can shop for some good players.
