Marcus Campbell all set for World Snooker European Tour – Snooker Update
Scotland’s Marcus Campbell displayed some outstanding snooker genius in the final encounters of the previous snooker season and finished the season on World Number 22 position. He started off his new season campaign with a superb start as he made his way
to the semi-final stage of the first major ranking event, the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament at the Wuxi Sports Center arena in Wuxi, China.
He faced some of the top potters in the line-up and edged past them firing impressive snooker skills. However, he was not able to beat Ricky Walden in the semi-final and tumbled down in the event.
He spoke to World Snooker, “There is less pressure on players like me these days because there are so many more events and I think that's the main reason why I've improved.”
The Scotsman is now aiming to show his improved performance in the upcoming snooker tournaments. Currently he has the World Snooker European Tour ahead where he is looking forward to make an appearance and hit the Top 16 list. He will begin his tour campaign
in the European Tour with his Stage 1 match against England’s Matthew Selt.
While speaking to World Snooker about his objectives in the European Tour, Campbell said, “It's only half an hour drive from my house so it will nice to play in a tournament where I can stay at home, although it will feel a bit weird not staying in a hotel.”
He added, “With so many Scottish players on the tour now, there should be at least one tournament up here.”
Snooker supervising body, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) added some new snooker events in the 2012-13 Snooker Season to give an opportunity to the players to grab as many titles as they can. This addition brought good news for
those cuemen who were in lower ranks. They took advantage of the opportunity and claimed the titles of first couple of major ranking snooker events.
It will be interesting to see how these new tournaments and young players make an impact in the snooker season. The fans will be looking forward to seeing their favourite players battle it out for top honours.
