Marcus Campbell beats Stuart Bingham in final frame thriller: PTC Grand Finals 2011
Marcus Campbell has beaten Stuart Bingham by a frame score of 4-3 in a best-of-seven frame match of the 2011 Players Tour Championship held at Helix, Dublin, Ireland.
It was a fully stretched battle between the players with an overall score line of 42-82, 72-0, 27-64, 66-29, 2-72, 79-44 and 126-0.
Most of the frames played were cagey except the last one which was finished off with a magnificent century break of 126.
In the first frame, Campbell was the first one to be among the balls but he broke down on 28 bringing his opponent on the table. Campbell had an opportunity again after Bingham rolled in a couple of breaks, 16 and 38, but he still could only manage a break
of 14 and finally Bingham took the opener by adding 28 more.
The second frame was not that long as the Scottish bounced back firing up breaks of 34 and 38 to level the things by 1-1. Bingham was not given a chance to pot any balls in this frame. However, he lost control of his emotions in the next frame, breaking
down on 9. Although Bingham was able to clinch the frame on getting an early chance, he made it successfully in the end to lead by 2-1.
The fourth frame was a scrappy affair. Bout of safety play was seen between the players until it was Campbell who came on top after getting 12 odd-points and with it a chance to claim the match.
A similar story was seen in the fifth frame as this time the Binginator, Bingham, also showcased his flawless safety skill to get 13 odd-points and went 3-2 ahead by a couple of quick breaks 20 and 38 in the end.
The match was almost through as Bingham needed only one more frame to reach the finish line. However, the tables were turned on him when Campbell won the last two in a row.
Campbell, who was playing slow otherwise, took the sixth with a classy break of 58 before producing a mind-boggling century break of 126 in the seventh to seal his victory in the quarter-finals by 4-3.
