Marcus Campbell disappointed over his defeat against Shaun Murphy: 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
First round clash between the former World Snooker Championship winner, Shaun Murphy of England and the Scottish potter Marcus Campbell was one of the most tussling encounters of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament so far. Both potters
went neck-and-neck in the second session of the game after Murphy was leading the match by a score line of 3-1.
After tumbling 3-0 down in the first session of the match, the Scotsman bounced back to add one frame victory to his side of the score board to move 3-1. However, he was pushed down by 4-1 in the beginning of the second session, as he had to dig deep to
get himself to a level where he can challenge the Magician. He sprang back brilliantly with three straight frame wins to pull level at 4-4 and drag the match into a decider frame.
The Scot dominated the final frame in the beginning with a tremendous half-century break but a miss brought Murphy on the table who swept it in no time to claim the victory by the score line of 5-4. Campbell was not expecting that coming from Murphy but
still he failed to make it in his favour. The Scotsman was quite disappointed over his loss.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Campbell said, “When you are 3-0 down you start to relax a bit because you're almost throwing caution to the wind. Shaun was missing a couple so I was getting a few chances. Normally when you're 3-0 down against
a top player like Shaun you don't get many chances after that.”
The Dumbarton Destroyer added, “I was still getting chances but I played nowhere near the way I played a couple of weeks ago. But every match is different and had I scraped through I would've felt an awful lot better in myself. It's disappointing, but still
it's progress.”
Campbell will head back home while Murphy will play his next match against compatriot Tom Ford in the second round of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open. The clash will be interesting as both players have come through after facing tough challenges in their
first round clashes.
