Marcus Campbell finds different playing conditions at Bendigo Stadium – Snooker News
Former World Snooker Championship winner from England, Shaun Murphy was up against the Scottish cueman, Marcus Campbell in the opening round clash of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament and defeated him by the score line of 5-4.
The Scotsman tried his best to counter Murphy’s impressive game in the first session of the match and he did manage to pull level at 4-4 but failed to win the final frame as he slipped down by the score of 5-4.
Campbell started his season campaign with his participation in the first Asian Players Tour Championship (APTC) and the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament. The Scot witnessed and experienced different playing conditions in Chinese arenas than at the Bendigo
stadium which might have caused trouble for him during his clash against the Englishman.
While speaking to World Snooker about the conditions, Campbell said, “I didn't start well. We came from Thailand and Wuxi before where the tables are slightly sluggish. These were absolutely beautiful but you are decelerating a bit and I had a chance to
clear up in the second frame and I missed a pretty bad blue.”
The Dumbarton Destroyer further added, “You can't afford to give someone of Shaun's calibre a 3-0 start. I started to feel good there towards the end. It was a bit scrappy, but it was just one of those games.”
The weather conditions do affect the inside of the arena and the surface of the table especially when they are not provided proper heat so that the baize can be perfect for playing. During the hot days of summer, the tables in Chinese arenas were humid which
was troubling for the players.
Campbell found it difficult playing in entirely different conditions. However, despite that, he did give some chances to Murphy to take over the proceedings and win the match. The Englishman will next meet compatriot Tom Ford in the second round encounter
of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open at the same venue.
The match up will be thrilling since both potters have shown good form in their first games. The tournament is turning out some brilliant match-ups and the fans will be looking forward to more exciting action in the days to come.
