Marcus Campbell into semi-final beating Mark Williams: 2012 Wuxi Classic – Snooker Update
Quarter-final stage of the 2012 Wuxi Classic began with a blast where Scotland’s Marcus Campbell did not give any chance to the former two-time World Snooker Championship winner from Wales, Mark Williams to win the game. With some tremendous snooker breaks
at the Wuxi Sports Center arena in Wuxi, China, Campbell was able to beat the Welshman by the score line of 5-3 and book his spot in the semi-final stage.
The expectations of the match were tilted towards Williams because he was in good form but the Scotsman proved it wrong and totally unnerved his opponent with his classy snooker skills. The first session of the match was led by Campbell when he took three
frames in reply to Williams’ first frame victory.
However, the Welsh Potting Machine bounced back into the game during the second session and claimed two frame wins. This was not enough to put a stop in Campbell’s run who claimed two set victories to win the game by 5-3 and reserve his seat in the penultimate
stage of the tournament.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Campbell said, “Over the last little while I've been feeling good with myself and feel that I can actually do something. I felt I deserved to be at least 3-1 up, could have been 4-0, I was feeling great and
then reality started to kick-in and I started to feel a bit nervous.”
He added, “Fortunately for me Mark missed a couple of balls but conditions got a bit tough there, it started playing a bit heavy. It became a bit of a battle in the end. But I'm really chuffed to get to this, my first ranking semi-final and I've been a pro
for 21 years. I'm so happy.”
During his run in the quarter-final encounter against Williams, the Scotsman fired some outstanding snooker breaks of 66, 88 and 60 to unnerve his opponent. Williams gave his best in the game but failed to match up the Scot’s strength. Campbell has reached
his first even semi-final encounter of a major ranking snooker tournament where he will face Ricky Walden.
