Marcus Campbell ready for Ricky Walden semi-final clash in 2012 Wuxi Classic – Snooker Update
Proceedings of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament have entered the penultimate stage after the finish of quarter-final competitions at the Wuxi Sports Center arena in Wuxi, China. Top four potters who performed outstandingly in the quarter-final stage
have made their way into the semi-final clashes successfully where they will battle for the ultimate glory.
In one of the initial quarter-final encounters, Marcus Campbell of Scotland has booked his place in the penultimate stage of the event after performing a tremendous snooker display against the former two-time World Snooker Championship winner, Mark Williams
of Wales in the quarter-final stage. Campbell kept his leading position until the end and won the match by the score line of 5-3.
With his impressive victory, Campbell will enter his first semi-final encounter of any major ranking snooker tournament where he will meet his friend England’s Ricky Walden. He has played Walden a couple of times before and has performed impressively against
him. The Scotsman is aware if his next opponent’s strengths and is all set to face him in the semi-final.
While speaking to World Snooker after his match, Campbell said about Walden, “Ricky's a good friend of mine. I think we've played a couple of times, but not recently. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm just going to go out and enjoy it and continue to,
hopefully, get over the line the way I've been getting over the line.”
He added, “But I'm really looking forward to playing Ricky, he's a good friend so the game will be played in a lovely manner. I won a PTC two years ago where I had to play four best-of-sevens in the final day, which was pretty hard. So that won't pose any
problems, playing long hours on the table.”
The first session of the Campbell-Williams was totally dominated by the Scotsman as he cruised into 3-1 lead firing two amazing breaks of 66 and 88. The Welsh Potting Machine bounced back into game during the second session but the Scottish potter stopped
his run with two frame victories and claimed his quarter-final match win by 5-3.
