Marcus Ellis and Gabrielle White secure Mixed Doubles title at Yonex Welsh International 2012
England’s talented players Marcus Ellis and Gabrielle White showed a wonderful performance in the arena and claimed Mixed Doubles title in style at the Yonex Welsh International 2012 at Cardiff, Wales, on Sunday, December 2.
In the final battle, Marcus and Gabrielle showed their elite skills and remained successful in defeating their lower ranked compatriots Chris Langridge and Heather Olver in 49 minutes.
The in-form Marcus and Gabrielle, who were the top seeds in Mixed Doubles draw in Welsh International, played to their maximum potential in the arena and remained successful in beating the third seeded Langridge and Olver in straight games with a reasonable
margin on the board.
In the meanwhile, the lower ranked Langridge and Olver posed threat for the top seeds in the opening game by playing incredible badminton.
However, the third seeded English duo failed to maintain a good rhythm and eventually went down against their higher ranked challengers in a respectable way.
Marcus and Gabrielle performed extremely well from the initial points of first set as they played with amazing speed and precision in their shots and grabbed the control of rallies.
The top seeded Marcus and Gabrielle showed their top quality skills in the arena and eventually got a strong position in the arena.
However, the lower ranked Langridge and Olver also displayed remarkable skills and stayed neck-to-neck against their in-form challenger until the end of opening half.
After the break, the match progressed in the similar fashion as both couples put up tremendous show of thrilling badminton and reached at 20-20.
At this stage, Marcus and Gabrielle controlled the pace of the game and managed to score ending points to grab the opening game with a close margin of 22-20.
In the second set, Marcus and Gabrielle played with stunning speed without leaving any room for Langridge and Olver to keep up pace.
Until the one-minute interval, the impressive Marcus and Gabrielle remained consistent in playing positive and controlled badminton and remained successful in taking a reasonable lead until the break.
After the interval, the top seeded English shuttlers stayed focused in the arena and they managed to end up the second game with a convincing margin of 21-16.
The lofty Marcus and Gabrielle emerged as title winners in Mixed Doubles category as they ended up the final battle in straight games with a reasonable 22-20 and 21-16 score on the board.
