Marcus Fraser shares the eighth position at the UBS Hong Kong Open after the second round
Marcus Fraser of Australia carded a one-under par 69 in the second round of the UBS Hong Kong Open, to take the share of the eighth spot on the leaderboard, on Friday, November 16, 2012.
The UBS Hong Kong Open is the last of the six Asian Tour events that also received co-sanctioning by the European Tour this season.
The two-time European Tour winner suffered an early wobble in the second round, bogeying the 12th hole, his second. However, the Australian subsequently drained a restorative birdie on the very next hole that he played.
Afterwards, he recorded another birdie on the 17th hole, but a bogey on the 18th moved him back to an even-par score for the round.
Another two birdies against a lone bogey on the front-10 holes of the course allowed him to finish the day on a high note.
At the end of the second round, he found himself settled five strokes behind the halfway leader Michael Campbell of New Zealand.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he stated that he was pleased with his performance despite recording a poor score as compared to his first round’s 67.
“I played very average today, some good stuff at the start and it just fell away at the end,” he said. “Yeah, a bit frustrating after playing so well yesterday. But I mean, one-under in those conditions and not playing well was pretty good, I suppose”.
Talking about the playing conditions, he said that the winds were blowing softly during the first round on Thursday.
However, it was really difficult to make accurate calculations on day two, because of gusty weather conditions at the venue course.
“It was pretty windy yesterday afternoon, but this morning it was gusting all over the shop,” he said. “Made it pretty tricky; any time you miss hit a shot, you paid for it pretty severely. The course is still playing really well, and it's such a good golf
course that it needs a bit of wind as its defence”.
Fraser, whose last victory on the European Tour came at the 2010 Ballantine's Championship, is now confident to maintain consistency in the remaining two rounds, in a bid to end his two-year winless streak on the tour.
