Marcus Hoeglander grabs lead of 2012 European Juvenile Europa Class Championships
With tremendous sailing display on the third day of the 2012 European Juvenile Europa Class Championships, Sweden’s Marcus Hoeglander was able to hit the leading podium position of the regatta with 20 points after participating in six races, which also includes
a discarded race.
The third day proceedings were ideal for the Swedish sailor as he grabbed some higher finishes which brought him on top of the fleet standings.
The fleet participated in three scheduled races to formulate the overall result. The weather condition over the racing are were quite strong and supportive for the sailor to have perfect sailing.
The winds were moderate at the start of the day but before the participants launched their boats into the waters, the breeze became strong and started wafting around the race course up to 16 knots.
The strong breeze was one of the reason the fleet had an outstanding day and the Swedish sailor made his way to the top of the fleet. He claimed two second finishes in the first two races and a fifth in the third race which was enough for him to place himself
on the leading position of the fleet.
Hoeglander had a slow start of the regatta in the first two days of the proceedings because he clinched lower finishes of 19
and 10. However, a discarded 19th position proved to be lucky for him in the end.
Norway’s Nicholas Martinsen also performed convincingly in the third day races and was able to claim the second spot with three-point difference at 23 points.
