Marcus North appointed as Glamorgan’s CB40 and Flt20 skipper – Cricket News Update
Glamorgan County Cricket Club has appointed former Australian middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-North-c1982 as their limited overs skipper for the 2013 season.
North takes over as the Clydesdale Bank 40 skipper from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jim-Allenby-c1695 in the Friends Life T20 tournament. Wallace will, however, continue leading the side in LV = County Championship.
Wallace and Allenby were given the reigns of the respective limited overs sides after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Petersen-c1028 opted not to return after the 2011 season.
While speaking to media reporters after his appointment as Glamorgan’s limited overs skipper, North hoped the extra responsibility would bring the best out of him as leader and player.
"I'm honoured to be recognised by the management and to be given the chance to captain Glamorgan in limited-overs formats," North said. "The facilities and resources in Cardiff are fantastic … To compete it's about showing consistency and you need to do that within a game plan and structure that plays to your strengths."
"My one-day record is pretty good, having captained Western Australia on and off for eight years, I'm sure the extra responsibility will bring the best out of me as leader and player," he added further.
The left-handed middle-order batsman led Perth Scorchers to the final of the inaugural edition of the Big Bash League, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 skipper at the end of October citing his own struggle for form as the key reason for his decision.
North, 33, came to the Sophia Gardens at the start of 2012 and had a moderate season with the bat. In six CB40 innings, the left hander scored just 125 runs at an average of 20.83. He posted a more moderate return in the Flt20 managing just 47 runs in six matches, at an average less than 12, including a top score of 17.
His performance in the LV = County Championship was, however, a bit impressive with 577 runs in 13 innings at an average of almost 44, including a century as well.
