Marcus North scores a splendid ton against New South Wales
A brilliant century from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 (NSW), at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Toss was won by WA, and they elected to bat first. The wicket didn’t have too much assistance for the bowlers in it, and there were plenty of runs expected in the match.
However, the visitors didn’t get off to a good start, as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marcus-Harris-c1897 looked good in the middle, but they got out after getting starts.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Voges-c925 in the middle alongside his captain North.
Voges failed to support his captain, as he got out cheaply for just one run. His wicket saw the visitors struggling at 43 for 3. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tom-Beaton-c94177 walked out to join his captain, and the pair rescued their team from trouble. They constructed a 56 run partnership
for the fourth wicket, and things started to look better for their team.
However, Beaton failed to capitalize on the start he got, as he was sent back to the pavilion after adding 27 runs to the total. His wicket brought the 19-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-Marsh-c1974 at the crease, who amassed a brilliant century stand with North.
Both Marsh and North played sensible cricket, and took their team’s total over 300 until close of first day’s play. They didn’t take too many risks and once the ball got older, runs came easy for them.
North played a captain’s innings, scoring an unbeaten 136 from 260 balls. He struck 17 fours in his innings, and made sure that his team didn’t collapse. He couldn’t have done it without the support of the promising youngster http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Marshall-c90362, who was not-out on 89
off 200 balls, when the umpires called the day off.
The pair will be looking forward to extend their partnership on the second day’s play tomorrow, as they will be eying to bat only once in this match.
The home team got a good start by their attack bowlers, but the early advantage was wasted, as no wicket fell in the post tea session. Patrick Cummins was the pick of the bowlers, as he took two wickets for his team. He got some support from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Trent-Copeland-c2709
and Nicholas Bills, who grabbed one wicket each in the innings.
