Marcus Thornton, Monta Ellis: Free agents Utah Jazz should target - NBA Feature (Part-1)
Utah Jazz have been one of the most dominant teams in the Western Conference in the last 10 years. The franchise that was led by John Stockton and Karl Malone from 1996-2003 and then by Deron Williams in later part of the decade
failed to win the NBA title even once. Now that Williams has left for the New jersey Nets, the Salt Lake City franchise needs to add some steel in their roster if they want maintain their credentials as an elite team.
Marcus Thornton:
The Sacramento Kings’ guard Marcus Thornton is a restricted free agent this year and can be a potential target for the Utah Jazz if the Kings’ decide to release him.
Thornton’s past performances are pretty impressive to judge his basketball skills as he always played at his best potential. Since his arrival in league, he has impressed many with his consistent ball play. He made his way in the
NBA on 2009 when the Miami Heat selected him 43rd overall in the second round draft but soon traded to the New Orleans Hornets. He started his professional career tremendously and played with full energy with the Hornets.
Thornton played total 73 games in his rookie season and averaged 14.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. His tremendous performance was also recognised by many when he was selected in the NBA All-Rookie second team
but during the 2010-2011 season, he was traded to the Sacramento Kings.
So far, his performance has been pretty consistent and the Jazz’s management is looking desperate to include Thornton’s calibre player into its roster. His inclusion in the Utah Jazz will make its current roster stronger for future
seasons.
Monta Ellis:
Recently, some reports came out in the media regarding Golden State Warriors’ guard Monta Ellis and his potential trade to some other team in the league. Though, these are still speculations and no one has confirmed about his potential
trade but if these speculations turned out to be true then the Utah Jazz must pursue Monta Ellis to strengthen its current roster. He is hugely talented and a quick scorer. Since his arrival in the league, he has been performing with great consistency.
Monta Ellis has relatively a very good experience in the league. He has been playing in the NBA for past six year with an average of 19.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. Last year, he played total 80 games for the
Golden State Warriors and averaged 24.1 points, 3.50 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game.
