Marcus Thornton leads as Sacramento Kings rout Minnesota Timberwolves – NBA Recap
On Sunday night the Sacramento Kings handed a double-digit, 115-99, defeat to Minnesota Timberwolves here at the Power Balance Pavilion.
The Kings had 6 players in double figures as they rolled onto a 2 game winning streak. Marcus Thornton stole the show with a game high 24 points while rookie point guard Isaiah Thomas was also on song with 18 points. He was jubilant
after the game.
"We're having fun right now, playing the game the right way," said Thomas. "It's always nice when guys are knocking down shots. It makes it that much easier for me."
John Salmons poured in 15 while Jason Thompson continued to his hot run with a 3rd straight double-double, scoring 13 points to go with a team high 10 boards. Reserves Chuck Hayes and Donte Greene chipped in with 12
and 11 points respectively for Sacramento, who banked their 16th victory of this season.
Wolves shot 100% from the charity stripe and also had 6 players hitting double figure index. Kevin Love tallied a team high 21 points and 11 rebounds while rookie Derrick Williams collected 16 points with 9 rebounds coming off
the bench. Martell Webster had 14 and Luke Ridnour along with Michael Beasley shared 13 apiece. Reserve Anthony Randolph narrowly missed his double-double with 10 points and 9 boards.
Their efforts though couldn’t suffice to halt Minnesota’s skid as they rolled down to a 3 game losing streak.
After a slow start, the scores were tied at 11 each midway through the opening frame. The Wolves managed to create some breathing space, 21-17, late but Thomas tied the scores at 23 apiece by hitting a pair from down town. After
some back to back action, Minnesota succeeded in creating a 31-28 margin by the end of 1st frame.
Beasley opened the 2nd with a jumper and widened the gap to 33-28 but the Kings clawed that off with a 12-4 run and claimed a slender 40-37 lead early. The game remained highly competitive in the ensuing passage as it
was tied at 57 each by the end of 1st half.
Early in the third, the Kings sprinted to a 12-4 run and claimed a 69-61 advantage. Wolves never allowed the Kings to pull away though and reduced the gap down to 84-80, before Sacramento reeled off a 6-2 run and finished the quarter
with a 90-82 lead.
Sacramento hit the ground running in the fourth and blasted their way into the decisive frame with a 13-4 spurt, increasing their advantage to 103-86 with 7:25 in hand. Minutes later, another 9-2 run pushed them to 115-95 and it
was never a contest after that.
