Marcus Thornton stars as Sacramento Kings outmuscle Memphis Grizzlies 119-110 - NBA Recap
On Tuesday night Marcus Thornton scores 31 points to lead 5 Sacramento Kings players with double scoring figures, in a 119-110 win over the Memphis Grizzlies at the Power Balance Pavilion.
DeMarcus Cousins tallied 23 and rookie point guard Isaiah Thomas netted 18 points as Kings kept on displaying an impressive show at home. Jason Thompson had yet another double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds while Tyreke
Evans posted 13 coming off the bench as Sacramento made it three wins in three games.
"Huge thing happened at shoot-around today. The rule I have is (if) a guy has an injury; he doesn't lose his position to an injury”. Sacramento coach Keith Smart on his decision after sending Evans off the bench. “He comes right
back into the lineup and start(s). As we (were) putting our matchups together for tonight's games, Tyreke Evans came up and said, "Coach, keep Johnny (John Salmons) in the lineup.”
For the Grizzlies, Rudy g*y netted a team high 23 points while Mike Conley recorded 16 along with 9 assists. Marc Gasol nearly missed a triple-double with 15 points, 10 boards and 8 assists; Tony Allen chipped in with 14 while
Zach Randolph recorded 13.
The opening frame was a well contested and high scoring affair.
Sacramento were leading by 23-21 in the final minutes of the quarter and then outscored the Grizzlies 14-7 to take their advantage to 37-28 by its end. Midway into the 2nd, the Kings had stretched their lead to 52-39
but Memphis shaved that off by reeling a 15-4 run and reduced their deficit to 56-54 with 2:05 in hand.
Sacramento however quickly redeemed their double digit 66-56 lead by pulling a 10-2 run at the end of the half.
Kings kept the Grizzlies at bay in the third and deep into it they were leading by 85-78 on their way to a 93-86 advantage entering the last 12 minutes of the game.
Inside the first five minutes of the final frame, the Kings ballooned their lead to 106-94. Memphis tried to reduce the gap but the Kings counter punched their every attempt.
Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins was exasperated by his team’s efforts, especially after getting physically outplayed;
"I don't want to talk about any individual person. All I want to talk about is that we got our butts kicked because we did not play hard and did not play together,"
