Marcus Trescothick optimistic about Somerset’s chances on finals day – Cricket News Update
Somerset’s captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marcus-Trescothick-c1898, is optimistic about his side’s chances as they prepare for the fourth successive finals day appearance.
In an interview with the BBC Points West, the former England batsman insisted that his side was “close to achieving” Twenty20 success, come the Friends Life T20 finals day, on Saturday.
The county has reached finals day in the past three seasons but failed to make it count big time, losing in the final each time. They lost to Sussex in 2009 Friends Life T20 final, and to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807 in 2011, and Trescothick featured in both the defeats.
But the 36-year-old left-handed opener said that every occasion is different and claimed that his side will turn the fortunes, this time around.
"We understand we have been to finals day three years in a row and this is our fourth time now and we've not come away with the trophy at the end of the day,” Trescothick told BBC Points West on Thursday, August 23, 2012.
“It's always important you manage to do so. You try and put measures in place and work at things during the winter. Hopefully this time around it'll be our time," the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 skipper added further.
The three-time Flt20 finalists are scheduled to play http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 in the tournament quarterfinal, at Taunton on July 24.
Trescothick admitted that the pressure of playing on the big occasion was there, however he was confident his side would not be bogged down by that pressure.
"The challenge is always there to play on the big occasion," said the left-handed top order batsman, who played 76 Tests and 123 One Day Internationals for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, between August 2000 and September 2006. "To keep putting ourselves in that position, we're
there or thereabouts," he added further.
The first semi-final of the day will see http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867, at the same Cardiff venue. The winner of the two semi finals will compete in the tournament final on the same day, at the same venue.
