Mardan Mamat holding firm to his lead for the first nine holes at the Panasonic Open
At the completion of first nine in the final round of the Panasonic open, Mardan Mamat still seems to be holding on tight to his lead and is poised to finally win the tournament after a long drought of
five years. The 43-year-old Mamat has tried to keep the first nine holes bogey free but stumbled on one at the 8th, although well ahead of fast approaching Manav Jaini, who had a splendid front nine in the morning.
Starting off with a birdie at the opening hole, Jaini carded no less than three birdies and just one bogey at the 9th. Jaini had settled for third place at the end of the third round on Friday,
with a 67 for a total of 205. He now stands at 2-under for 70 and has climbed on to the second spot, just one shot behind the leader, Mamat.
Third round’s Anirban Lahiri, suffered two bogeys on the 3rd and 9th. Lahiri had earlier blasted off with a birdie on the first of front nine and was all set to challenge Mamat for
the victory. He is now 1-over for 73, for a total of 277. Mamat, after first nine is still three shots ahead of Lahiri with an aggregate of 274.
India’s star golfer, Jyoti Randhawa had also an impressive first nine and is 2-under for at for the moment. A staggering eight times winner on the Asian Tour, Randhawa was seen blasting his way out of
obscurity on the lush green Delhi Golf Course. He is now tied with Lahiri for the third place at the end of first nine holes.
South African, Tjaart Van Der Walt, is the currently one of the top scorer for the first nine until now and pulled in four birdies to climb on to 4-under. He was smashing his way to the top with two more
birdies in the opening holes of back nine with just one bogey. Himmat Rai and Ali Sher of India are following up the leaderboard behind Van Der Walt.
India’s sports minister, Shri Ajay Maken will be the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony on the final day of the $300,000 event. Mamat will be facing tough challengers like Jaini and Van Der
Vault, who are forging their way up the leaderboard with every hole.
