Mardan Mamat ready to celebrate the 300th Asian Tour appearance of his career
Mardan Mamat of Singapore is set to celebrate his 300th Asian Tour appearance, when he tees off at the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters, at the Kota Permai Golf and Country Club, on Wednesday, September 5, 2012.
After turning professional in 1994, he has accumulated a total of $1,749,448 prize money by recording three victories and more than 40 top-10 finishes.
He now wants to add another title to his resume, when he reaches the new milestone of his career this week.
While talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he expressed his pleasure on being a part of the top-ranked players in the region, even though he is turning 45 next month. He also wished to play on the main tour as long as he remains fit and healthy.
“Winning is my biggest motivation,” Mardan said. “I’m quite happy that at the age of 45 (he turns 45 next month), I can still compete. I’m very fortunate. Some of my peers have given up playing tournaments. But I want to get better every day. That’s the
key to my success of playing”.
Right after he decided to turn professional, he burst onto the scene with a victory at the 2004 Indian Open. Afterwards, he had to wait for two years and took the second Asian Tour title home, after winning the 2006 Singapore Masters.
Thereafter, he came close to victories a number of times. However, he spent six years without a win until he thrashed the field of the ICTSI Philippine Open this year and added another trophy to his shelf.
“Every win was special,” he said. “I love to win and I love to compete. By doing that, I like to work hard and keep getting into shape. From young, I have always worked hard”.
“I love to do it. Every day when I wake up in the morning, I look forward to playing golf and going to practice,” he added.
After spending almost two decades playing the sport, he is no doubt the best player from Singapore and has the potential to play the game for years to come.
