The 29-year-old Mardy Fish from the United States of America after finishing the season ranked number sixteen in the South African Airways ATP list is now hoping to crack the top ten in 2011.
The Florida resident, who made his debut on the ATP tour back in 2000, is widely regarded as a hard court specialist. He has so far won five singles titles on the ATP tour. His best result at a major event was the quarter-final run at the Australian Open
and US Open back in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
Fish, who achieved his career high ranking of number sixteen last month, now believes that he can make it into the top ten of the South African Airways ATP list in 2011.
"I have very high expectations, higher than I have ever had. I am healthy, fit, and confident. So I do not think it is unrealistic to aim for the top 10. I do not have many points to defend the first half of the year. The first three Grand Slams, I did not
get past the second round,” reflected the American on Monday.
The right hander started his 2010 campaign on a high as he along with his partner Sam Querrey won the SAP Open men’s doubles title, thrashing out Benjamin Becker and Leonardo Mayer in the finals in two sets. The final match score was 7-6, 7-5. By virtue of
this victory, Fish also improved his career mark to 7-1 in the ATP World Tour doubles finals.
He posted his best result of the season by winning crowns at the Hall of Fame tennis tournament in New Port and Atlanta Tennis Tournament in 2010.
His other season highlights include runner up effort in Queen’s tournament and Western and Southern Financial Group Masters in Cincinnati.
While commenting on his aim to reach the top ten in 2011, the American added, “If I can be more consistent through the first part of the year, win some matches on the clay, do something more at Wimbledon, I should be able to get there."
