Mardy Fish and Richard Gasquet head-to-head in the third round of 2011 Sony Ericsson Open
Mardy Fish defeats Julien Benneteau
2010 Hall of Fame Tennis Championships titlist Mardy Fish knocked out his French opponent Julien Benneteau in two straight sets 6-4, 6-3 at the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open on Friday. American, Mardy Fish, swept away his opponent in just one hour and nineteen
minutes.
Playing their third match on tour, Fish extended his winning run to 2-1 in the career head-to-head. Although neither of the players struck noteworthy first serve percentages in the first serve, Fish struck a winning percentage of 93 per cent while Benneteau
managed only 67 per cent. Yet, they didn’t enter a noteworthy first serves percentage. Fish enlisted 54 per cent of first serves, whereas Benneteau could only register a 60 per cent of his first serves.
Fish converted 100 per cent of his break point opportunities and pulled ahead first set with 6-4 score.
In the second set, the game was marked off on justified terms by both players. Fish shot out 67 per cent of the first serves and racked up 75 per cent of points on his first serves, whereas his French opponent fell behind with 56 per cent on his first serves.
Fish converted all his break point opportunities to good advantage and made headway into the next round with a 6-3 score.
Richard Gasquet defeats Paolo Lorenzi
France’s Richard Gasquet beat out Paolo Lorenzi, a qualifier here, in two sets 6-2, 6-3. The Frenchman only required one hour and nine minutes, to oust the Italian from the event.
Playing each other for the first time, Gasquet went one up in their head-to-head score. The Frenchman started out the first set playing prominently; posting an amazing first serve percentage of 88 per cent as opposed to his defender’s 36 per cent. Lorenzi
converted 2 out 4 break point opportunities without permitting his opponent to even face any. Gasquet took the first set with 6-2 win.
Lorenzi played smartly in the second set, as he fired in two aces and 71per cent of the first serves. This time Lorenzi possessed a better conversion rate of 82 percent than his contender’s 77 per cent. Luckily, Lorenzi saved 67 per cent of his breakpoint
opportunity whereas Gasquet took advantage of his 100 per cent break point opportunities and sewed up a win with 6-3 in set score.
Fish and Gasquet will face each other at the next round of the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open. If both players keep playing like this in the third round, it will be difficult to predict who the winner shall be.
