Mardy Fish recovers after having heart procedure – Tennis News
American number one, Mardy Fish, was diagnosed with a heart condition which is described as a form of arrhythmia. However, the he has performed corrective measures to solve the problem and is now eager to make a comeback at the Wimbledon Championships.
Ranked 10th in the South African Airways ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Rankings, Fish has not played a match since late March due to fatigue. However, the American has now revealed that he was suffering from a heart problem.
As a result he was forced to withdraw from the French Open, a Grand Slam event held on clay courts in Paris, last week.
"It felt like my heart was going to jump out of my chest," the American was quoted in a phone interview from Los Angeles. "During days, I'm totally fine.... But every time I would go to bed my mind would start racing. Is this going to happen tonight? Is
this going to be another night like that? It was super hard to go to sleep."
The problem first appeared after he triumphed at the Davis Cup tie against Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka in February.
Fish is eyeing to make a return at the Wimbledon, third of the four Grand Slam event held on the grass courts in June. He has started light training now and if he fully recovers quickly, the American will participate at the Queen’s Club ATP World Tour 250
event.
Fish further stated, "I want to stress that I'm good now, I'm fine, they've fixed the problem. I don't want people to think I missed the French Open because I didn't want to go because I was just tired."
The top American is enjoying a drastic on-going season as he exited from the early round at the Australian Open, first of the four Grand Slam event. Regardless of winning at the Davis Cup, Fish was edged out in the opening or the second round from the following
tournament he entered. He re-ignited his spark at the Sony Ericsson Open in late March and cruised to the final eight. Fish tumbled over South Africa’s Kevin Anderson and 12th seeded Nicolas Almagro en route to quarters. However, he lost to the
21st seed, Juan Monaco of Argentina with a breadstick.
The American suffered another blow at the Houston ATP event before skipping the tournaments. This event was his first and the only clay court tournament this circuit.
