Mardy Fish unsure of his return to ATP World Tour – Tennis News
America’s top player, Mardy Fish, is in doubt about his comeback to competitive tennis, as doctors are still trying to figure out the problem he is facing.
Giving his latest interview, the American said, "I'm doing OK. We're doing lots of tests to try to figure out what's going on and what went wrong. It's sort of unclear as to how or why it happened yet, but we're trying to figure
it out. It's not something I'm super comfortable talking about. It certainly was a scare.''
The 30-year-old fell ill when he woke up in the middle of the night with severe fatigue during Sony Ericsson Open in Miami last month. He decided to play the quarter-final encounter against Monaco next day but that didn’t prove
out to be a good one and he was miserable crushed by the Argentinean in straight sets 1-6, 3-6.
Beign examined by the doctors after the match, the American was advised rest for one week, which resulted in his missing the USA’s Davis Cup quarter-final against France at that weekend.
Fish shared, ''That was really devastating and disappointing to not be able to go there. If you know me, you know that it had to be something pretty significant.''
The American featured as the top seed at US Men’s Clay Court Championship after passing the fitness test in the following week, getting upset by the then world number 136, Michael Russell, in straight sets 3-6, 1-6 in his first
match.
Fish is now looking to make a comeback at the Mutua Madrid Open, which will start from 6th May, followed by Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome and then the French Open. However, he is not completely sure if he will
be able to make it or not.
The American accepted, 'I'm not 100 percent sure whether I'll be back for that but that's the goal.''
The California, USA resident has already made his mind to stay away from this summer’s London Olympics. Instead, he has committed to the Citi Open, former Legg Mason Tennis Classic, in Washington during the same dates.
Fish has failed to impress his fans in this season, having a poor win/loss record of 7-6 in 2012. Playing his first tournament of the year, the 6ft 2in tall was stunned by Alejandro Falla, ranked 71st at that time, in
straight sets 6-7(4), 3-6, 6-7(6) in the Australian Open second round.
The Minnesota, USA born was replaced by Isner as the top American at the start of last week but regained his position seven days later.
