Question:

Mare turned sour?

My QH Mare just turned 8yrs when I sold her. I raised her from the age of 2 1/2 and have all types of ridders and children on her. She was leased to a 11yr old, ridden in high school rodeo, parades, and 4-H. I never had any major issues with her, in fact she was a very quick learner. I sold her 3 months ago, and the new owner has called me to say the mare is very nasty. They have issues both on the ground and in the arena. She pins her ears and raises her back leg during grooming. In the arena, she head tosses and runs them into the side of the arena. They do not trust her with children and basically don't like her at all. This is not the horse I sold them and I'm shocked at how unhappy she is. I cannot afford to buy her back. Does anyone have any answers as to why this happens? I did have her with her 2yr old baby in a nice sized pasture. She is now stalled and put in a let-out during the day.

  1. I think you answered your own question in your last sentence.. She is unhappy!!. I would be too if I were let out all day in a nice sized pasture... then all of the sudden I was stalled up, and only put in a let-out during the day..

and purhaps the people you sold her too arnt the nicest either?.. If she was such a great horse why did you sell her?.. I wouldnt have thats for sure..

  2. Maybe she misses you?

  3. Go over to the new farm and check things out for yourself, then maybe you'll see a reason for the change in her behavior and can instruct the new owners on what to do differently.  The difference could be that she's not turned out like she used to be, but it could be something else, like her tack not fitting properly.

  4. why are you asking this in the parenting and pregnancy section?
