Marek Hamsik pleased with Manchester United link
Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik is delighted at the prospect of being linked with English Premier League giants Manchester United.
Hamsik told
RAI Sport, "It is pleasing to hear that kind of comment, even if I haven’t had any direct contact. I have to admit, it would be difficult to say no to Manchester United."
The Slovakian midfielder has been the subject of numerous transfer rumours over the past year or so, following his outstanding displays for his current side.
With United getting ever closer to having to replace their old guard, Paul Scholes, in central midfield, Hamsik fits the bill perfectly, with his passing and goalscoring abilities reminiscent
of a young Scholes in many ways.
Hamsik is something of a talisman for Napoli, often dragging his side through games in the same kind of way Steven Gerrard has done so for Liverpool in recent years.
At just 23 years of age, Hamsik is young enough to represent a significant long-term investment, but has the experience behind him to slot straight into a top-quality team.
His comments will surely come as a boost to Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who desperately needs to strengthen his squad with the kind of quality Hamsik possesses.
Despite Hamsik admitting he hasn’t had any official contact from the Manchester club, his comments may well see Fergie step up in his admiration for the player, knowing that the player
himself would jump at the chance to join the club.
It’ll be interesting to see if United can stump up what would be a hefty transfer fee though, but after the Wayne Rooney transfer saga, Fergie is believed to have funds to strengthen a
squad that has seen world class players exit in the last few years, but has seen none of any stature arrive.
