Marek Michalicka plonks Arthur De Greef to book a spot in the main round – Bath Challenger 2012
Final qualifying battle between the Belgian teen, Arthur De Greef, and the experienced Czech contestant, Marek Michalicka, ended in three-sets. The Czech finally booked the berth in the main round of the Bath Challenger that will
be contested in America. Final scores were 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 that donated the first round place for the Czech.
The first set was totally dominated by the teen. He came out with an all-round onslaught; thumping the Czech on his serves and crushing him down in all respects of the sport. He broke serve twice on the trot at the start of the
opening set to take a resounding lead of 4-0. She further consolidated his position by holding his serve and taking the scores to 5-0.
Michalicka was allowed just one consolation serve hold in the opening set that ended the first part of the match in the favour of the teen. He was all fired up to put another eye-startling display that will demolish the experienced
Czech and more importantly help him to move into the main round of the tournament.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t allowed easy breakthroughs in the second set. He tried hard to sneak one break serve but couldn’t explore an opening. The Czech player improved his control over the serves and exerted pressure on his opponent
that dismantled the confidence of the Belgian.
In the last critical game of the second set, the teenager failed to absorb pressure and gifted the vital breakthrough that helped his rival to develop some momentum as well as enhance his chances of winning the match.
The final set proved an embarrassing toll for the teen who was totally devastated from the Czech. It was a classic turnaround in the proceedings. An early breakpoint in the fourth game set the tone for the Czech who consolidated
his position with a thumping breakthrough in the sixth game as well. Scores tickled over to 5-1 in his favour and his opponent was not able to absorb the pressure and play error free tennis.
A comprehensive serve hold registered a perfect comeback for the Czech who will be seen in action in the first round draws of the tournament.
