Marek Semjan defeats Michal Kianicka in the initial qualifying round – Bratislava Open 2012 CH
Ranked 459th in the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Rankings, Marek Semjan, successfully battle through the initial qualifying round of the Slovak Open 2012 held at the hard courts of Decoturf, Bratislava.
He consolidated his spectacular victory 6-2, 6-2 against his compatriot, Michal Kianicka, in approximately one hour on Saturday.
The 17-year-old Slovakian professional held his initial serve in the opener but encountered great pressure by his challenger. He struggled hard to take the lead and evened out the score line to 2-all in the fourth game. However,
the pattern did not continue for long, as Semjan attained his desired results in the fifth game to confidently break into the lead. The Slovakian senior took a flyer and terminated the initial set with a 6-2 lead.
The Slovakian senior secured the lead by thundering five aces, with 78 percent with 15 of 18 first and just two of five second delivery points. Fortunately, he was able to capitalize two of three serve break and his contender was
unable to attain even one. The right-hander, Kianicka, managed to pocket away 52 percent initial serve accuracy with eight of 13 first and three of 12 second delivery points in retaliation.  
In the following set, Kianicka commenced the set with a strong resolve to take over but as the game progressed, he lost his momentum. The 24-year-old Slovakian focused on his former strategy, which helped him to sustain his composure.
He clinched his opponent’s serve and as the game prolonged, he skillfully reeled off all the points and pulled out the set with a 6-2 win.
The right-hander local senior, attained 54 percent initial serve, bagging away 10 of 14 first and eight of 12 second delivery points. He was able to stain his dominance because he snatched two of the three serve breaks and his
challenger was unable to bag away a single point from the two chances bestowed on him. In comparison to that, he secured 63 percent first serve precision with 10 of 15 first but just two of nine second delivery points.
For the next round, Semjan will battle against the winner of the match between Nicolas Rosenzweig and Piotr Gadomski.
