Marford Missile – Performance Review - 2012
Marford Missile started off his career positively in 2011 and looked quite a promising runner back then. He won on debut, which is always an encouraging sign for any runner and he followed that up with a couple of more solid performances that year.
Just after appearing in three events during that year, the talented gelding was rested by his team for quite some time before he made a comeback in 2012. He was expected to be strong, but had a few ups and downs during this time period.
The Tom Dascombe’s trainee started of his campaign this year with “Getting Out Stakes At Cheltenham” Handicap. He was not rated as the favourite to succeed, as he was up against some fierce competitors. Despite that, he did not panic at all and surprised
one and all with his exceptional performance.
He managed to succeed by just a neck distance and won a cash prize of £4,075.47 from the class-4 contest.
However, things did not work out well for the Irish runner afterwards, as he started to struggle badly. He appeared in a rain affected race for the first time in his career and did not like the conditions at all, finishing 10th out of 11 entrants.
This shattered the confidence of the three-year-old gelding and he continued struggling for the next few races. He ended at the bottom of the chart for three consecutive events, which was a concerning sign for his team. Nothing was going well for him and
needed a solid performance to regain rhythm.
Marford Missile trained hard and finally fought his way up with a couple of back-to-back runner up finishes. His team was delighted with his performances and then he managed to succeed once more, showing class to one and all.
This victory was quite an important one for Majestic Missile’s son, as he regained confidence. He followed it with two more wins, completing the first hat-trick of his career. He will now look to end the season on a high and then compete in some bigger events
next year.
Veteran jockey, Richard Kingscote, has enjoyed the company with Marford Missile until now, as the pair has produced some memorable performances. They will look to continue this partnership in the coming years as well.
