Marford Missile to gain victory at expense of Frognal and Rakaan in Eastwellmanor.co.uk Claiming Stakes at Folkestone
A drop in grade has revitalised Marford Missile, and he can comfortably get the better of Frognal and Rakaan in the Eastwellmanor.co.uk Claiming Stakes, being held at Folkestone on Tuesday, September 18, 2012.
He is yet to open his account this season, but ran a couple of good races lately. After missing the gold medal only by a head’s distance at Kempton, he demonstrated a splendid show at Wolverhampton.
But luck stayed away from him, as he finished second only by three quarters of a length. In the hands of Stephen Craine, the Tom Dascombe-trained chased the leaders brilliantly early on.
An excellent effort in the middle stages gave him an obvious chance inside the final furlong, but he failed to quicken towards the finish. As a result, he narrowly missed the victory in the class 5 Cleanevent Claiming Stakes.
Although he is yet to add the finishing touch this season, the form he showed last twice makes him a solid option in today’s class 6 meeting.
He is going to face seven speedy horses at Folkestone, where the going is good to firm. The 7-furlong event is scheduled to begin at 14:50 GMT. It carries a handsome cash prize worth £1,704.
Rakaan, who is being considered as the biggest threat to Marford Missile, is in very bad form these days. On his latest start at Haydock, the 5-year-old was eighth behind Zacynthus.
Under Graham Lee, Jamie Osborne’s charge held up in the midfield. Consequently, he was completely unable to make an impression in the Betfred Clyde & Co Handicap. Despite the fact that he is stepping down to the lower level, it is hard to recommend him after
a few awful defeats lately.
Frognal is also going through a lean patch these days. After ending up fifth at Ayr in June, the Violet M. Jordan-trained slightly improved his game, but could only finish fourth at Yarmouth last time.
Most of Marford Missile’s opponents are out of form these days. So, it is a mega opportunity for the son of Majestic Missile to go one step ahead. We wish the best of luck to all the horses.
