Margarita Lazareva triumphs over Ushna Suhail to reach quarters – Djibouti ITF 2012
Second seed, Margarita Lazareva, stomped over the Pakistani challenger, Ushna Suhail, in straight sets at the Djibouti ITF 2012 on Wednesday. She nudged up a 6-3, 7-5 success against the Pakistani to power into the second round at this ITF (International
Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place in Djibouti.
The seeded Russian showed exceptional skills to outshine Suhail in almost one hour and 15 minutes. Battling each other for the first time, Lazareva comfortably progressed into the final eight at this outdoor hard court tournament taking place from 17th
to 23rd December.
Lazareva made a convincing entry at the Centre de Tennis de Gabode 4. She levelled the scores in the sixth game after displaying brilliant agility. The Russian then went on a three-game tear and clinched the opener with a 6-3 score line. She brushed off
both breakpoints she came across to keep her entire serves. Lazareva converted the lone break chance in the eighth game and moved a step closer towards her goal.
Ranked 351st in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Lazareva kept her momentum floating in the following set. She drew the first break early in the set and took the initial lead. The Russian lost her serve in the very next game
but took the lead again with another break of serve. Despite levelling the scores in the eighth game, Lazareva got the breakthrough in the second last game and eventually sealed the set by winning seven games to five.
Up next for seed is the Ukrainian challenger, Diana Bogoliy, who stunned sixth seeded Stephanie Scimone in a three-set thriller to set up this meeting. Bogoliy lost her path in the second set but found her rhythm again in the deciding set tie-breaker and
clicked the match with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(5) success.
The fourth seed, Melanie Klaffner, will join Lazareva in the final eight. She stomped over the Russian challenger, Alina Mikheeva, in straight sets to advance. The Austrian starlet fended off early resistance to bag the match with a 7-6(5), 6-2 score line.
She lost her serve twice but cashed four break chances to earn the fame.
