Margartio is the most avoided fighter out there right now. Mayweather avoided him and even Shane Mosley who has never ducked anybody turned down a fight with Margarito.

So first off big up to Cotto for taking the fight in the first place when he did not have too.

Margarito is not the best boxer, not even close, but he is a middleweight fighting as a welterweight. He a big,strong lanky durable guy who just keeps punching and keeps coming at you. He has knockout power in either hand and he can take a huge shot.

That being said he does not use his height and reach to his advantage instead preferring to fight on the inside which should benefit the smaller, shorter armed Cotto. Being that Cotto's punches have less distance to travel then does Margaritos so Cotto should be landing first. But if he stays inside too long he will get hit.

The strategy for Cotto should box from the outside and let Margarito come to him, then when they get inside Cotto should unleash a brutal body attack early, throw a few punches then get out. Fight from angles and keep Margarito off balance.

Wear Margarito with the body shots and go for the kill later in the fight.

I hope this fight lives up to the classic it has the potential to be. But in my opinion Cotto is just too well rounded and hits too hard for Margarito to beat him.

Look for Cotto to utilize the uppercut when Margarito comes in, Margarito has a tendency to bend down when coming in on the shorter fighters leaving himself wide open for the uppercut. If I can see that I'm sure Margarito's camp can see that and devise a game plan to land the uppercut when Margarito comes in stopping him in his tracks, pounding him to the body and getting out and repeat until Margarito cant take any more punishment.

Cotto has 2 saftey zones and one danger zone. At about 1 foot from Margarito Cotto will take advantage of his shorter arms and will land first and more often inside.  

At approx 3 feet away he is just out of range of Margarito's straits and overhands. Allow Margarito to over extend himself and punish him when he falls short of his mark.

The danger Zone is at about 2 feet away. That is where Margarito's reach advantage will come into play, he will be able to land big and step away before Cotto gets to him.

Cotto has to be able to counter Margarito at a distance of about 3 feet, close the gap and get inside Margarito's chest. The best way to do that will to be to counter Margarito at a distance and let Margarito come to him.

Although out of everyone out there Margarito has the right style to beat Cotto. But the very adaptable Cotto should be able to change up his attack if one is not working.

Prediction:  Cotto TKO 10, Margarito's corner does not let him continue after a bad 8 and 9th round.
