  1. Lucky?!  Margarito traded 3 for 1 the whole night and still won!  It's wasn't luck!  Sometimes boxing is determined by skill or agility its determined by grit and determination.  Cotto fought well but Margarito had more heart, that's why so many people are going to call this an instant classic.  One boxer did everything right whereas the other boxer just wanted it more.  It wasn't luck.  Luck doesn't make another man quit.

  2. LUCK!! DONT THINK SO HONEY HE GOT A GOOD MEXICAN BEATING I PREDICTED MARGARITO WOULD BE 2 TOUGH FOR COTTO I ACTUALLY HAD MOSLEY BEATING COTTO BY SPLIT-DECISION AND I SAW HIM HURT HIM SO I KNEW HE COULD`NT HANDLE MARGARITO`S POWER IN THE LATER RDS HE AINT BUILD LIKE THAT!!!!

  3. Lucky my ***! Cotto got BEAT!!! Plain and simple! Margarito took Cotto's best shotsand stillkept coming. Cotto is ****** for  declining to be interviewed after the fight. He ran out of there like a little girl. What a puss!!! BIG UPS TO MARGARITO!!!

  4. Yeah he got lucky keep telling yourself that

  5. Cotto should have you train him for his next fight.  Now is not the time for excuses, it's the time to admire what Margarito has accomplished.

  6. LUCKY MY *** MARGARITO BEAT THE BEJESUS OUT OF COTTO IF YOU LOOK AT THE FIGHT COTTO KEPT PUNCHING AND MARGARITO WALKED RIGHT THROUGH THEM COTTO HAD THE MORE CLEAN PUNCHES I WILL GIVE YOU THAT BUT THE MORE EFFECTIVE PUNCHES I DON'T THINK SO DID YOU SEE YOUR BOYS FACE I MEAN DAMB COTTO SUFFERED A BROKEN NOSE AND 2 BROKEN RIBS HE WAS SPITTING UP ALOT OF BLOOD HE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL RIGHT AFTER THE FIGHT I MEAN COTTO IS A GREAT FIGHTER AND I COMMEND YOU FOR DEFENDING HIM BUT YOU HAVE TO ADMITT THIS JUST WASN'T HIS NIGHT  AND HE LOST FARE AND SQUARE AND FLOYD WAS SMART TO RETIRE BECAUSE FLOYD HAS THE SAME FIGHTING STYLE AS COTTO AND YOU WOULD'VE GOT THE SAME RESULT FLOYD HITTING MARGARITO AND MARGARITO WALKING RIGHT THROUGH THEM FLOYD GETTING WORN DOWN THEN DESTROYED I MEAN I KNOW YOUR A COTTO FAN BUT GIVE IT UP TO MARGARITO HAVE YOU EVER HEARD THAT SAYING TO BECOME THE MAN YOU HAVE TO BEAT THE MAN WELL MARGARITO BEAT THE MAN I WOULDN'T MIND SEEING A REMATCH DUDE

  7. Cotto fans are awful and should be embarassed.  HE couldnt hurt Margarito with his best shots and it would be hard to bang to the body when you are back peddling the whole night.

I give Cotto credit he has had an impressive career thus far, he just ran into a buzzsaw that he cant beat...dont expect a rematch and if you do get ready for more of the same.

Dont make excuses for a fighter he didnt forget anything, he just got beat.

  8. I think Cotto should have gone to the body more but the fact is Margarito wasnt going to lose last night. Going to the body is all fine and dandy but a boxer will take a good shot to the head over a good body shot anyday if Margarito could handle all those shots to head he could no doubt handle shots to the body. Luck had nothing to do with Margarito's victory it was his chin and his will to win that simple. Cotto is a great fighter but h**l never beat Margarito because he will never fight him again.

You guys gotta take it easy with the Cotto bashing the man is an excellent fighter he actually had a good fight last night he just ran into a machine. Cotto was sharp with his punches and looked real good early he lost that fight in his head early because he kept going back rather then forward but you cant blame him go fight a guy in the street and hit him with clean shots left and right and see how you feel when he keeps coming at you like a bull its tough.

  9. lucky my balls. cotto lost cause hi's not good for s**+..t .. just accept it there is nothing worst than a puertorican making excuses for a lost. margarito is the best, period. he won don't forget that.

  10. Like f**k Margarito got lucky! He wasn,t game enough to go the body because he knew he would leave himself exposed for margaritos power shots if he did. He basically **** himself once he worked out that margarito was a taller, straighter puncher than himself! Cotto is 140 pounder and should stick to fighting Hatton and co at that weight. I always knew cotto wasn,t the real deal. This just seals it.

  11. look sugar ****....cotto is the better boxer hands down.....

1st you have cotto the undefeated the younger fresher champ at 28 or 29 top ranks own top boy!!!!

they took there time with him till he went in with zab juhda it was a good fight zab rocked him as zab has got the skills to match anyone but does not khow how to use them but would of gone with cotto to win all day..then mosley 36 he was close but that show a mosley 28 walks over cotto no problem....now till the gomez cotto is full of blood lips nose never ends a fight with no blood dipping........

then margarito was brought thought the hard way hash like most the latino way you are not inthe fight till you are bleeding

if you are not moveing forward well you are running away..

yeah lost some fights but that were it worked out better for him he found out the hard way been there done it like almost every legend has fihgting pro at 16 but cotto is the only boxer

of there two history mexico and puerto rico who never found what a war is like hey he is good a boxer but at his age he found out what its like the hard way..but with cotto they was to  worried about staying undefeated than when it comes to it as good as he his he does not have there blood of a gomez

    or tito or sanchez--chavez--duran--barrera ..lopez

they never let the cat out bag at the time when he was ready other had now say....... cotto is a bad boy but these are from h**l ready to die cotto not.... they made a few mistake with him some how the slums dont go with cotto...

  12. Suck it up, he got whooped and lost, It was Margarito's night.

  13. lol. lucky. right. you want to know the reason Cotto didn't go to the body more. Margarito has long arms. when he would get him in the corner he would get close and tuck his elbows which would cover his body and make it hard to hit. also Cotto would have to bring his hands low to punch to the body. meaning he would open up top, and Cotto couldn't take Margarito's power. if he would have gone to the body he would have gotten punched in the head more and probably knocked out earlier. Margarito is just to strong for Cotto.

  14. haha wow i can always tell the people who didn't watch the fight.um sorry but your wrong.the only reason why cotto wasn't going to the body was because he kept getting clocked by margarito when he would get close.margarito boxed brilliantly and plain and simply beat cotto.

  15. Margarito's victory wasn't lucky.  He broke Cotto down with a classic plan of taking away his legs with constant body work, which left Cotto susceptible to the uppercuts and other power punches to the head and face.

Cotto didn't attack the body because his plan was clearly to stick and move.  Everyone knew he couldn't stand toe-to-toe with Margarito, and he was scoring alot of combinations with clean shots to Margarito's head and then moving away.  So Cotto couldn't risk standing in front of Margarito to attack his body and he didn't need to because his plan was seemingly working.

But Margarito's body attack, and unbelievable chin, paid off for him in the end, because Cotto no longer had the legs to circle around the ring and Margarito was still fresh and unaffected by Cotto's shots.  At that point, it was all over.

Margarito executed his fight plan perfectly.  Cotto did too, but it just wasn't good enough.  I don't think he could do anything differently to beat Margarito.  If he would have focused more on standing in front of Margarito and trading with him, Margarito would have knocked him out a lot earlier.

  16. Another pissed off Cotto fan ? guess so.

Suck it up dear you're beloved Cotto is undefeated no more,he has been relegated to overrated overhyped bum.

Cotto was LUCKY Margarito never punched him more when he was on one knee begging for mercy

  17. Cotto didn't forget about the body, Margarito didn't leave his body open because he knew that is how Cotto fights and with Margarito being a Mexican, he can take those head shots all night long, as you well saw.  I am a huge Cotto fan, but luck had nothing to do with it, Margarito did exactly what he had to in order to win, and it worked.

  18. That's ridiculous. Cotto just plain could not hurt Margarito. I'm not sure a middleweight could after watching him. They should call him the granite tornado because his jaw is unreal.

  19. Watching a fight on TV is not always the best way to see what is really going on, partly because it doesn’t give you good depth perception.  The fighters often appear to be closer together than they are and you wonder why one fighter doesn’t take advantage of openings that appear to be right there is front of him.  But often what appears to be open is not open, and that (IMO) is what you saw last night.

HBO will replay the Cotto-Margarito fight within a week.  If you like boxing, you should watch it.  You already know the outcome and you can watch closely to get a good look at what really happened.  Cotto is probably the best body puncher in boxing today, but he is much shorter than Margarito and has much shorter arms.  Cotto no doubt wanted to go to the body, but it either wasn’t there for him or getting to it would have been too costly.  I think Margo’s strategy was to punish Cotto severely when Miguel tried to get inside to work his body and Cotto realized that trying to get in close enough to do that work would have required him to take too many hard shots on the way in.

If you stand up facing someone as if you’re going to fight, you will find that you are not nearly as close to each other as fighters appear to be on TV.  Depending on your size (and your “opponent’s”), you may be as much as a foot farther apart than you thought you would be.  That distance is what you have to close in order to make contact, but it’s what might be considered the “kill zone.”  It’s the most “expensive” real estate in boxing and you may pay dearly trying to cross it.  I think we saw the truth of that last night.

I don’t think Margo was “lucky” in last night’s fight.  He had advantages in height, reach and probably in ring weight after rehydrating.  He threw many more punches than Miguel did and his granite chin served him well.  He didn’t really do anything that was surprising because he is well known for his work rate and his ability to take a punch (I hope he doesn’t pay too high a price for his ability to take head shots as he ages).

These two guys put on a great fight.  I think Cotto summed it up well when he said, “He did his job better than I did mine.”  Both guys wanted to win impressively.  Neither one wanted to win a decision, nor did either have any interest in a draw.  That’s one of the things that makes Mexican and Puerto Rican fighters great.  They come to fight.
