Margo Geer pockets Women’s 50m freestyle gold: Day two – 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
Margo Geer of University of Arizona earned gold medal of the Women’s 50m freestyle on day two of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Saturday, June 9.
The 20-year-old Geer made a significant improvement in her timing and occupied gold medal of the discipline. She spoiled the party of her challengers with her dazzling pace and made her way to the top of podium.
Her scintillating effort placed her almost a stroke away from her closest rival and she hit the wall with a wonderful timing of 25.20 seconds.
She was chased by Rebecca Thompson of University of Wisconsin, who remained 0.35 seconds apart and posted a nice time of 25.55 seconds for silver medal of the discipline.
Thompson was chased by Rhiannon Jeffrey of Unattached-FG, who was just 0.07 seconds slower and posted an effort of 25.62 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth finest spot of the race was secured by Ivy Martin of Wisconsin Aquatics, who stayed 0.32 seconds apart and settled on the finishing blockade by producing a time of 25.94 seconds.
Last event of the session was Men’s 50m freestyle final, where Roland Schoeman of Phoenix Swim Club occupied gold medal of the event.
The 31-year-old Schoeman elevated his pace in the playoff and secured gold medal by submitting a time of 22.00 seconds.
His effort remained 0.31 seconds slower from Masayuki Kishida of Tucson Ford Deal, who proved his eligibility for bronze medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 22.31 seconds.
Third position of the event was obtained by Simon Burnett of Tucson Ford Deal, who stayed 0.73 seconds away from his former finisher and emerged on the finishing end by clocking a time of 23.04 seconds.
Burnett was chased by Toni Valcic of Unattached-NU, who stayed 0.26 seconds apart and completed his swim with an effort of 23.30 seconds.
In addition, the arena appreciated gruelling efforts of all participants in the single lap freestyle events while the position holders were called upon the medals rostrum for awards and accolades at the prize distribution ceremony of the tournament after
the session.
