Margo Geer seizes Women’s 100m freestyle gold: Day one – 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
Margo Geer of University of Arizona seized gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle on initial day of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Friday, June 8.
The 20-year-old Geer served notice of her talent in the double lap freestyle event as she snared gold medal of the event. With her epic pace, she remained marginally slower from her fellow swimmers and reached the finishing wall for the title of the event.
Geer continued her smothering effort throughout the event and tapped the finishing blockade for gold medal with the timing of 54.93 seconds.
The gold medallist was trailed by Rhiannon Jeffrey of Unattached-FG, who remained 1.13 seconds apart and hit the finishing wall for silver medal by producing a time of 56.06 seconds.
Similarly, the second position holder was chased by Rebecca Thompson of University of Wisconsin, who stayed almost half body length slower from upsetting her foregoing finisher and stepped on the victory stand for third position with an effort of 56.63 seconds.
Thompson faced tough competition from her following rival, Alyssa Anderson of University of Arizona but managed to edge her out over the finishing end.
Anderson stayed only 0.04 seconds slower from the third position holder and settled on the wall as fourth best finisher with the timing of 56.67 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was secured by Mary Schneider of Academy Bullets Swim Club, who stayed just a stroke apart and surfaced on the finishing end with an effort of 56.97 seconds.
The 16-year-old Schneider was chased by Rebecka Palm of Wisconsin Aquatics, who proved her eligibility for sixth position of the event by submitting a time of 57.20 seconds.
Palm remained 0.25 seconds faster from Kimberly Jasmer of Columbia Swim Club, who reported a time of 57.45 seconds for seventh position.
Last position of the discipline was secured by Maria Mayrovich of Kansas Aquatics, who finished eighth in the event with the timing of 57.73 seconds.
With the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games, the Omaha meet is of utmost importance as it provides a chance to all swimmers to post an Olympic qualification time.
