Margo Geer wins Women’s 50m freestyle heats: Day two – 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
Margo Geer of University of Arizona won the qualification rounds of Women’s 50m freestyle on day two of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Saturday, June 9.
The 20-year-old Geer stifled hopes of her challengers in the single lap freestyle event and occupied the fastest qualification spot of the event. She remained dominant over her challengers from the start of the race and sprinted her way towards the finishing end for first position.
With her fascinating efforts, Geer remained almost two strokes ahead of her closest opponent as she tapped the finishing wall with the timing of 25.45 seconds.
She was followed by Rhiannon Jeffrey of Unattached-FG, who stayed 0.26 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end for second position with the timing of 25.71 seconds.
Jeffrey was chased by Rebecca Thompson of University of Wisconsin, who proved her mettle for third best qualifying position of the event with the timing of 26.10 seconds.
Thompson was chased by Ivy Martin of Wisconsin Aquatics, who stayed only 0.02 seconds behind and sprinted her way towards the finishing blockade with the timing of 26.12 seconds.
Meanwhile, the audience experienced ruthless aggression of Phoenix Swim Club’s Roland Schoeman in the Men’s 50m freestyle.
The 31-year-old Roland remained just a stroke away from his following swimmer and hit the finishing end with the timing of 22.19 seconds.
His gruelling effort was trailed by Masayuki Kishida of Tucson Ford Deal, who secured second best qualification spot of the event by reporting a time of 22.38 seconds.
Kishida was chased by Adam Small of University of Arizona, who stayed nearly 0.60 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing wall by producing a time of 22.97 seconds.
Similarly, the 22-year-old Small was chased by Simon Burnett of Tucson Ford Deal, who was 0.15 seconds apart and posted a time of 23.12 seconds for fourth position.
In addition, the arena appreciated commendable efforts of all participants in the single lap freestyle event whereas these qualifying swimmers will compete with each other in their respective playoffs to occupy the gold spot on the medal rostrum.
