Mari Mayrovich and Matt Margritier impress in Missouri: Day one – 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals
Kansas' Mari Mayrovich and Tsunami's Matt Margritier impressed the arena with their dominating swims on day one of the 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals - Columbia, in Missouri, on Wednesday, July 20.
The final session of the meet conducted several swimming events, where Mayrovich stepped up and snared the Women’s 100m freestyle crown with a sterling time of 57.57 seconds. Meanwhile, Kim Jasmer of Columbia earned the silver medal with a winning time of
57.68 seconds and Lauren Votava of Rockwood captured bronze in 57.74 seconds.
In the second race, Matt Margritier snagged the Men’s 100m freestyle title with a victorious time of 52.48 seconds. Will Schuermann of Greater Omaha won the silver medal with a time of 52.61 seconds, while Blazer Ben Scheffer of Kansas City clinched bronze
in a time of 52.67 seconds.
Elizabeth Braun of Razorback hit the wall in 2 minutes and 15.45 seconds to capture the Women’s 200m back-stroke crown, while Haley Smith of KC Blazer earned second place honours with a time of 2 minutes and 17.36 seconds. Sammie Schuring of Topeka rounded
out the top three in a time of 2 minutes and 18.32 seconds.
On the other hand, John Higgins turned around and won the Men’s 200m back-stroke title with a winning time of 2 minutes and 04.81 seconds. In the meantime, Scheffer grabbed second place on the podium with a time of 2 minutes and 04.85 seconds, whereas, Arkansas
Dolphin Ravi Sun wound up third in time of 2 minutes and 07.46 seconds.
Michael Bruce of KC Blazer won the gold medal in the Men’s 200m breast-stroke meet in a time of 2 minutes and 16.56 seconds, while Razorback Nicole Menzel secured the Women’s 800m freestyle relay title, after she touched the finishing wall in a time of 8
minutes and 48.29 seconds.
Meanwhile, Rachel Ripley won the Women’s 200m breast-stroke race with a time of 2 minutes and 33.10 seconds, while Ben Bravence secured the gold medal in the Men’s 800m freestyle meet in 8 minutes and 23.02 seconds.
