Maria De Villota gets discharged from Madrid hospital after surgery – Formula 1 news
Marussia test driver, Maria De Villota has been released from the Hospital Universitario de La Paz in Madrid after her surgery.
De Villota had a severe accident on July 3, 2012 at Duxford Aerodrome while she was testing the Marussia car. Unfortunately, she crashed into a stationary truck which was parked at the end of the test run.
She had some life-threatening facial and head injuries and was immediately taken to the Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridgeshire, England.
Afterwards, the team principal of Marussia, John Booth said that she was in a very critical condition.
She underwent a seven-hour operation on November 21, which was confirmed by her family in a statement, a week later.
“Maria de Villota underwent a new surgical operation aimed at craneal and ocular reconstruction,” it said. “The aim was to avoid future dysfunction due to the injuries caused by her accident.”
Nevertheless, she recovered remarkably well after few surgeries and has been finally released from the hospital. Furthermore, the Chief of Plastic and Reconstruction Surgery, Doctor Cesar Casado expressed satisfaction regarding the present condition of the
Spaniard.
De Villota’s father, Emilio de Villota said that her daughter is recovering really well and she has got the strength to fight with the adverse circumstances.
“She is still showing that vital strength that we are used to and is getting better every moment,” said her father Emilio de Villota.
In addition, he said that they talked with her during the time when she was kept in intensive care. He also said that she enthusiastically watched the epic season finale of this year in the hospital.
“We were able to talk to her while she was in intensive care and she was even able to follow the last race of the season,” he added.
The 32-year-old has participated in many racing series which mainly include, World Touring Car Championship and ADAC Procar Series.
Additionally, she joined Marussia in this season as a reserve driver, but sadly she had a horrifying accident just in her first test and lost her right eye on which she was very sad.
It will be important to mention that she has been declared ‘Driver of the Year’ by Car & Driver magazine.
