Maria Hjorth looking for her maiden win at the Solheim Cup Matches
Maria Hjorth cannot wait to tee off in this year's Solheim Cup and with good reason. She has a score to settle.
In this year’s match that will tee off at Killeen Castle in County Meath, Ireland on September 23, Hjorth will be hoping it will end her drought of a winless streak with Europe and a return as a winner.
While talking to the media about it she said, “I think and hope that this year in Ireland we will put up a really good fight as I feel we have a good chance to win. Our team is playing really well right now, although the American girls are playing great
too.”
Hjorth would also be hoping to grab this opportunity for a better singles record, which at the moment stands at a dismal 0-3-1.
She is 2-2-3 in four-ball play and 3-2-1 in foursomes matches, the closest she was able to come to a team victory over the Americans was in 2002 and 2005. The Americans were on top on both the occasions beating with figures of 15½-12½.
Hjorth believes that the four captain picks that will be given to her will be imperative and crucial to the final outcome.
The Swede also mentioned her captain Alison’s hard work and added, “Alison's done a great job touring around Ireland giving clinics and just trying to get more support for us and have more people come out and watch the Solheim. I think we'll have a great
fan base there and a lot of support, so I'm really looking forward to it.”
Hjorth was asked from a reporter whether playing in the fifth Solheim would diminish the intensity to perform well and win. She was quick to respond in the negative and said that no matter how many times you play in the Solheim it feels just as exciting
and important as it felt when she first started playing it.
The seasoned Swedish veteran has appeared in four Solheim Cup matches in the years 2002, 2005, 2007 and 2009.
