Maria Hjorth ready to take on rivals at Evian Masters 2012
Swedish Maria Hjorth, who participated in the 2011 Evian Masters with plenty of confidence but unfortunately could not prove her worth, is gearing up to join the field of the prestigious tournament, scheduled to be played from July 26-29, at Evian-les-Bains, France.
Hjorth is seeking to record a victory in the current season, but she has not been able to impress her golf crazy fans. However, the Evian Masters 2012 is going to provide her with plenty of opportunities to prove her mettle.
Analysts said that the Swedish star is among the veterans in the field of this week’s tournament, as she has been around for a long time now. Having racked up five titles on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour so far in her career, the 38-year-old star does not appear to be complacent at all, as she has repeatedly vowed to do her best in the coming events.
The battle at the Evian Masters 2012 will be tougher than most of the contenders are anticipating, as there are 30 South Koreans in the field, which can make it difficult for non-Asian players to play their natural game.
Officials of the tournament informed that the roster for the LPGA tournament has been confirmed, and players will vie for a whopping $3.25 million purse.
Some of the famous players confirmed to take part in the Evian Masters 2012 include Stacy Lewis, current world number one Yani Tseng, Caroline Hedwall, Catriona Matthew, Sophie Gustafson, Azahara Munoz, Anna Nordqvist, Karen Stupples, Melissa Reid, Christel Boeljon, Ai Miyazato, Laura Davies, Suzann Pettersen, Laura Davies, Lexi Thompson, Na Yeon Choi and Paula Creamer.
Analysts said that Asian players appear to be in a stronger position than their American and European rivals. However, contenders from Europe will remain in the spotlight, as the event is being staged in France.
Hjorth is aware of hope being pinned on European contenders, as she has decided to play a natural game, so she will not be overcome by her nerves.
During the last edition of the Evian Masters, the Swedish golfer expressed her confidence in her game. “I think it's obviously playing a little bit longer probably because the ball is obviously not going, you know, very far once it lands on the fairways. So, yeah, I just think you got to make sure you hit the fairways”.
