Maria Hjorth wants to be part of 2013 Solheim Cup team, but regrets performance slump
Swedish Maria Hjorth couldn’t have put it more aptly when she expressed her feelings in her recent interview that the coming Europe’s clash against the USA at Solheim Cup 2013 would be deemed
as the most crucial event in women’s golf.
Keeping in mind the fearsome line-ups on both sides and the hype involved, Maria has put her complete trust in her fellow Europeans, saying she is confident that they will once again outplay
their archrivals when they come face-to-face at Colorado next year.
In a recent interview with the LET (Ladies European Tour), Hjorth said Europe has improved quite a lot in recent years and the players have become much more assertive than ever before, which
is surely going to help the overall game.
Europe looked much more solid in the 2011 Solheim Cup, but their American foes aren’t far behind either—as they appear to be in a stronger position right now, although they lost the last edition
of the much-hyped Cup.
Hjorth boasts an impressive profile both on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) and LET and has been performing well since she turned professional in 1996.
The Swedish star might have missed several good opportunities in her protracted career, but her glorious performance in the 2011 Solheim Cup speaks of her talent and passion for the sport.
Hjorth was the most important component of the team Europe as she was the one who kept her partners in high spirits till the end of the tournament, despite she grabbed 1.0 points.
When asked what it feels like to see the Cup coming up again, the LET giant said that she is pretty thrilled about it and hopes her teammates will enter the course with an even more solid
strategy next year.
She said the best strategy to face the rivals next year will be to remain confident, as confidence will help them focus on every single hole.
“This is definitively getting better... and be really strong and keep fighting... every hole and never ever give up,” Hjorth said.
When asked whether she will show up at the 2013 edition, she said that she desperately wants to be part of the European squad as she knows what it feels to represent the continent. She went
on to say that her current performance has not been so commendable and this is something upsetting for her.
“Hopefully I would love to play again, obviously. I would like to have a win on American soil as well before I am done with my career. That would be great! But there is still a long away...I
had a rough year this season but...you never know ... Things can turn around ...and I could show some form  next year and get picked for the team,” Hjorth shared.
