Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova rise in the doubles rankings – Tennis News
Russian superstar, Maria Kirilenko, has rushed her way up into the Top-10 players of the world in doubles category. She along with her long time partner, Nadia Petrova, stunned everyone by reaching the final of the Roland Garros
French Open. They were leading the final set 2-0 against the Italian duo of Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani who later on gusted their way back into the match and won the title.
Kirilenko who is ranked 19 in the singles category is now placed at the seventh spot in the doubles rankings. So, she receives the direct entry into the London Olympics. However, she would have made it to the Olympics because her
partner is also ranked 11 in the world so there was not much of an issue.
It is very difficult for a player to sustain decent rankings in both categories but she is one of those players who have fought extremely hard throughout the career. There is one other player who has stunned everyone with her ability
to consistently perform in both categories. She is none other than the reigning doubles French Open Champion, Sara Errani.
It is good to see players maintaining their match fitness especially women who need to work extremely hard in training sessions to built stamina for playing in both categories of all tournaments. Kirilenko has really impressed
everyone by her efforts and definitely deserves to win a doubles Grand Slam title along with Nadia Petrova who has always helped her in each and every rally.
Nadia Petrova who was ranked 15th in the doubles category has also jumped four places with this performance. So, overall it had been a terrific tour for both players. They were on the verge of winning their maiden Grand
Slam title in Paris together but anyway they will soon have another shot in Wimbledon.
Other prominent duos include the likes of number one team from American, Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond. Czech superstars, Lucie Hradecka and Andrea Hlavackova, were also the rising stars in this year’s edition of French Open. So,
the doubles play is getting interesting as well.
