Maria Kirilenko squashes Ksenia Pervak to book a spot in the fourth round - Sony Ericsson Open 2012
Russian tennis beauty, Maria Kirilenko, squashed the 20-years-old Kazakh competitor, Ksenia Pervak, to confirm a spot in the fourth round stage of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami. She grabbed the triumph in almost 71 minutes registering
straight sets scores 6-2, 6-1.
Kirilenko was the one to be awarded the first serve by her opponent after the Kazakh won the toss. No drama was witnessed in the first three games before the Russian clubbed a breakpoint opportunity courtesy to a stunning backhand
cross-court winner. She was tested to limits on her serves but sneaked away with serve holds to keep her lead intact. Scores moved to 4-1 in the meantime.
Pervak did well to hold her serve and not allow her opponent to run away with a show. She stayed in the hunt for a breakpoint to keep the set alive but wasn’t provided with an opportunity by the Russian. Scores tickled over to
5-2.
The Kazakh had to hold her serve to make sure she stayed in the set but her technique pulled her down; lost the breakpoint and the set allowing the beauty starlet from Russia to take hold of the proceedings. Kirilenko grabbed 30
points in the opening set winning it with a difference of eight points.
She commenced the second set as well and dominated the show; winning three games on the trot courtesy to a magnificently executed drop shot that won her the third breakthrough of the match. Once again, the Kazakh was pressurized
on her serve in the fourth game but she saved a breakpoint to register a serve hold and finally win her third game of the match.
Another breakpoint for the Russian in the sixth game pulled curtains for the Kazakh who was in no position to make a comeback. Kirilenko won all four points in the final serve game and won the match in style; won 28 points compared
to just 12 of her opponent in the second half.
Maria Kirilenko will square-off against the seventh seed French starlet, Marion Bartoli, in the clash for the spot in the last eight players of the tournament.
