Maria Sharapova: I'm certainly happy with the level that I produced in the six matches – Tennis News
Former world number one, Maria Sharapova, is very confident that she will revive the major loss of the Australian Open and comeback as a much improved player because her best form is yet to come. She showed her delight on
a classic comeback from injury; she was just one win away from grabbing that number one spot once again in her career but the Belarusian tennis ace, Victoria Azarenka, demolished her dream by bamboozling her in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.
Russian tennis icon liked the way she was back in the Grand Slam finals, fighting for the most privileged spot in the world ranking and that is always a good feeling. She stated, “It's a positive, because I didn't know what
to expect from myself coming into this event. I didn't know at what level I'd play. I didn't play for so many months and I had a pretty tough injury. I'm certainly happy with the level that I produced in the six matches.”
It is good to see that the Russian tennis ace has forgotten what happened to her on the Saturday eve and moving on with some new targets. She was promoted to number three spot in the world rankings after her outstanding performance
in the year’s first Grand Slam. She is inching closer and closer with every triumph and she knows that time is near when ‘Maria Mania’ will begun once again.
She knew that there were some issues with her game style during the final. She was sloppy with her foot work and was stuck at the baseline. She further added, “I'm certainly happy with the level that I produced in the six
matches. So, yeah, everything is still a work in progress, whether I won today or not. It's still a moving train.”
Sharapova didn’t play most of the events last year, suffering from a chronic shoulder and ankle injury. She made a comeback in the Australian Open this season and showed her class. Most of the analyst thought that she would
be ousted in the first round match by Gisela Dulko but her commitment and willpower to play aggressively produced positive results. She is just 24-years-old and still got a lot of time in her career to prove her worth and climb up to the number one spot.
Next duty for Sharapova is to lead the Russian team in the Fed Cup tie against Spain. The show starts from 10th of February.
