Maria Sharapova all set for another dream match against Ana Ivanovic – Tennis News
When two of the most beautiful ladies in the tennis circuit go one-on-one against each other, it’s not just a game of tennis but a lot more for the tennis lovers. Russian beauty queen, Maria Sharapova, is all geared up to face the ravishing Serbian superstar, Ana Ivanovic, in the semi-final clash of the BNP Paribas Open.
Both stunning divas will compete against each other on the outdoor hard courts of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California. The highly anticipated contest will be played on Friday night, with the two splendorous beauties putting up an enthralling show under the lights. Sharapova has already claimed that she is ready to take down the former world number one, Ivanovic, in the semi-final battle to stamp her authority over the game.
The current world number two, Sharapova, is having a sublime run of form these days and is aiming at the top spot in women rankings. She had a golden opportunity to reclaim the world number one spot in the final of the Australian Open this year but the slender-legged Russian was brutally battered by the reigning top-ranked Belarusian, Victoria Azarenka, who clinched her maiden Grand Slam title by defeating her.
Sharapova and Ivanovic are yet to win a championship title this season but Indian Wells seems to be a perfect place to end their title drought. Ivanovic stunned the top seed defending champion, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, in the fourth round draw to depict her vintage form. The Serbian trails 2-3 in the all-time head-to-head series against Sharapova and is desperately eying to level the scores against the Russian.
The second seed Russian had a real tough time against her fellow compatriot, Maria Kirilenko, in the quarter-final round of the BNP Paribas Open but this hard-fought victory has raised her confident to an all new level. She is determined to take down Ivanovic, who registered a huge upset by disposing off the world number seven, Marion Bartoli, in the quarter-final clash.
The last time these two women faced each other was in the final of the 2008 Australian Open. It was a one-sided affair, with Sharapova manhandling the Serb to win the Grand Slam title in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. It has been a long time since the tennis lovers has seen the two prettiest faces in the tennis world battling out against each other and Indian Wells has given them a treat to have this week. An enthralling battle in anticipated but with the current form of Sharapova, she is deemed to be the hot favourite for winning the semi-final brawl.
