Maria Sharapova considers Indian Wells as a home tournament – Tennis News
Former world number one, Maria Sharapova, owns a house at Manhattan Beach and has been living in Florida since her childhood so she considers the tournament played in Indian Wells as a home based event. She is an International
stars and her beautiful blonde figure has also infused a fan base across the globe. She receives a warm welcome wherever she goes and it will be another champion reception when she will enter a Centre Court at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
The Russian star was forced to leave her native country due to lack of tennis-related facilities. Her family nurtured Sharapova in an environment which was quite fruitful for her tennis skill development. Hence, she finds most
of the tournaments in America as home-based events because she receives a massive reception especially considering that she is one of the strongest contenders to win the tournament.
Sharapova stated about the Indian Wells tournament, “I like this tournament because the people come to watch the tennis. As tennis players, when we see fans driving up, see a line of spectators, it's incredible. You never know
about how you will handle something bad until it happens. No one had come back to the top of the game after my type of injury and the serve is just a big part of the game, of anyone's game, but I felt like I had to go for it and I still feel like I have so
many more years, so much energy, eagerness, motivation. So I'm not going anywhere for a while.”
The third ranked Russian will be the second seed in the contest that will commence the tournament at a good-note especially considering her fantastic performance last year that saw her run ending in the final against the top seed
Belarusian star, Victoria Azarenka. Sharapova who will turn 26 in the upcoming month has won the title at Indian Wells in 2006 and has to be put up a good show to save points this year.
Sharapova completed her Career-Slam in the French Open last year when she grabbed her fourth Grand Slam title at Roland Garros. She also has a Olympics Silver Medal to add to her list of accomplishments.
