Maria Sharapova desperately waits for her next Grand Slam title – Tennis News
World number two, Maria Sharapova, completely redefined her pace at the start of 2012 WTA season. She won her only missing Grand Slam title against the Italian contender, Sara Errani. She consolidated her straight set win, 6-3,
6-2, on the red clay at the Roland Garros. With her remarkable win, she has successfully joined the league of the elite championshaving a Career Grand Slam.
Sharapova in an interview said, "I think the first one I won was the feeling of joy from no expectations and not really understanding how this came so early. Whereas I felt like I really deserve this one because I've worked so
hard and I went through so many tough days to get here. I never, never put my head down. I was grumpy and I had my tough days and I would yell at people and say: 'You're promising one thing and it's not happening.' I'd certainly have my doubts, but I kept
going – and I didn't let anyone tell me otherwise."
Her win at the French Open was a pleasant surprise for her Russian fans. Yet she referred “a cow on ice” on the clay court. After that point, she displayed a remarkable game plan through the later part of the year.
At the All-England-Courts of the Wimbledon Championships, she was the top seeded contender. Nevertheless, she received a surprising defeat at the hands of the German contender, Sabine Lisicki in the fourth round of the Grand Slam,
crashing down to the world number two rank.
The 25-year-old Russian regained her momentum at the London Olympics. Despite of losing edge, she preserved through the contest with a strong resolve to clinch the gold medal. Unfortunately, she was plagued with an upset stomach
and was not capable to put a great show in front of the American veteran, Serena Williams. Nonetheless, she received the reward for her remarkable performance as she secured the silver medal.
The Russian had to dominate a shoulder surgery, with time there is a noticeable improvement in her strategy and action plan. She had worked hard to sustain her form, as she desperately wants to secure the world number one rank
once again.
The Russian beauty claims to be a passionate tennis player but regaining the former spot with strong rival’s like Williams and Victoria Azarenka seems next to impossible. She has miserably lost her lead in the two Grand Slams due
to her opponent’s massive groundstrokes and aggressive play.
The right-hander Russian surely faces a great threat at the hands of Williams, who has no aims to retire. Sharapova continued her poise and rallied until the final round of the China Open 2012, the last ATP Masters Event. She needs
to really work hard on her serve for getting back to the world number one position and prove her critics wrong. The Australian Open next year can surely mark an emphatic beginning in her tennis career.
