Maria Sharapova eases past Chan Yung-jan into the fourth round – French Open 2011
Russian diva, Maria Sharapova eased past Taiwanese Chan Yung-Jan into the fourth round at 2011 Roland Garros in Paris, France on Saturday May 28th.
Sharapova took a little over ninety minutes to secure a 6-1, 6-4 victory against the lower ranked Taiwanese.
The Russian had made her way into the third round after doing away with Mirjana Lucic in the first round and surviving a first set scare against local Caroline Garcia in the second.
Playing her third match against the Taiwanese, Sharapova led the head-to-head score 2-0, extending it to a hat trick win today.
The inform Russian came out firing in the first set as she broke Yung-jan in the very first game. Sharapova again blasted away the Taiwanese as she broke her serve again in the third game after six tiresome deuces. Consolidating
on these breaks, the Russian led the score 4-0.
Comfortably holding her serves in later parts of the set, Sharapova clinched a 6-2 victory to lead the set score 1-0.  Landing an impressive 86% on her first serve in the opener, Sharapova won a total of thirty nine points including
thirteen winners.
However, things started to spell trouble in the second set as Yung-jan put up some resistance. Matching blow for blow and an exchange of serve later, the score was tied at three games each. Reforming in the seventh game, Sharapova
converted a breakpoint opportunity to her advantage, before serving out the eighth game to lead the score 5-3.
Fighting hard for an early win, Sharapova sent her opponent running all over the court as she forced the ninth game to a deuce. Cashing in on an errant stroke from the Taiwanese and then hitting a winner down the line, Sharapova
clinched a 6-3 win, sealing her straight sets victory.
Sharapova survives to continue her struggle for a title win here - the only jewel missing from her well decorated crown. She next plays Pole Agnieszka Radwanska. The Pole made her way into the fourth round after doing away with
Belgian Yanina Wickmayer 6-4, 6-4.
